Dr. Ercan Karakoç joins Chatham as Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence during the Global Focus Year of Turkey

 

Chatham is pleased to welcome Dr. Ercan Karakoç of Istanbul as this year’s Fulbright Scholar–In–Residence. Dr. Karakoç was introduced to the Chatham community at the August 29 Opening Convocation, which also kicked off the Global Focus Year of Turkey.

Dr. Karakoç graduated from the Bogazici (Bosporus) University with a degree in History (School of Science and Literature) in Istanbul. In 2001 he completed his MA in the Department of Strategic Science at Gebze Institute of Technology in Kocaeli, and in 2008 he received his Ph.D. from the Department of History at Marmara University in Istanbul.

He has worked as an intern for one of the most prominent Turkish lobbies, the Assembly of Turkish American Associations, in Washington and is currently working at Gebze Institute of Technology as a research assistant.

He has published two books, Atatürk’ün Dış Türkler Politikasι (The Foreign Policy of Ataturk Concerning the Turkish World); and Cumhuriyet Dönemine Genç Bakışlar (Young Perspectives to the Republican Era); as well as numerous articles on the history of modern Turkey.

Dr. Karakoç will host a series of presentations for the Chatham community during his time on campus. Those events will be listed in eNews, as well as on the Global Focus website.
