| Undergraduate General Education Requirements Chatham University ’s General Education curriculum was developed to ensure that each student gains the knowledge and skills needed to be a World Ready Woman. The program is constructed around the three primary themes of the University mission: Global Understanding, Environmental Responsibility, and Women’s Public Leadership. Students are required to take a series of courses during their time at Chatham that build knowledge in these thematic areas and build critical lifelong skills, including information literacy, critical reading, analytical thinking, problem solving, and public communication through writing and speaking. Chatham’s general education program is designed to foster the following qualities:
- The intellectual habits of analytical reasoning and public presentation that enable lifelong learning.
- The sense of civic responsibility that comes from an understanding of the issues facing our communities, nations, and world and of our place in them.
- A general understanding of and appreciation for all places, cultures, arts, and people that enrich our lives.
- A knowledge of the self and of our abilities and values.
All Chatham students are required to take the following general education courses:

In addition to the above courses, all students are required to take:
- a series of wellness courses
- an intercultural/international experience, which may include travel abroad or foreign language instruction
- a quantitative reasoning course such as mathematics, numeracy, or statistics
