Biography
Joel Perkovich grew up enjoying and studying the natural history of Southwestern, PA. He has worked as a carpenter, environmental activist on issues of food safety policy and land conservation, a crop manager for farmers in Central PA, teacher, green roof researcher, landscape designer/builder, and project manager for a $1.5 landscape installation on the Caribbean island of Anguilla. In 2006 he traveled throughout Europe on scholarship to research green roof design and construction with leading scholars, builders, and landscape architects. He presently operates his own design/build practice, Tsuga Studios, in Pittsburgh, PA. His work focuses on the restoration of ecosystem services in the built environment, and realizing the profound social and environmental impacts that green space can provide in urban spaces.
