Academic Areas of Interest
My main research, teaching, clinical and advocacy interests revolve around understanding the lived experiences of groups of diverse women, understanding group dynamics with a special interest in exploring the active ingredients of change present across different types of therapy groups, and the etiology and treatment of trauma and trauma-related problems in living.
Personal Areas of Interest
Food, wine, being outside, mindfulness, novels, music, baking, kayaking, and connecting with people I like.
Biography
Jill worked for several years in public health, policy and women’s rights advocacy in Washington, DC before beginning her doctoral studies. While at the University of Maryland, she completed clinical training at Maryland’s college counseling center, Greenbelt CARES community center, a state women's prison, and the Baltimore VA Medical Center. She completed internship at the Cleveland VA Medical Center where she worked with men and women veterans recovering from PTSD, addiction, mood disorders, and severe mental illness. Jill has presented her research at the conference of the American Psychological Association for the past five years. Jill has taught and co-taught undergraduate and graduate courses in counseling theories and human diversity at the University of Maryland since 2007. At present, Jill teaches Supervision of Internship I and Practicum, Theories and Techniques of Counseling, Group Counseling, and Assessment. Before coming to Chatham, Jill was most recently a postdoctoral associate at Christine A. Courtois and Associates specializing in the treatment of clients on the PTSD spectrum. Currently, Jill sees therapy clients at the University of Pittsburgh Counseling Center.
