Laptop Requirement By Program
Because of the importance of access to research and networked information and the extent that the Chatham University Health Sciences, Landscape Architecture, and Interior Architecture programs rely on technology and communications, beginning in the fall of 2010, all program’s part-time and full-time graduate students will be required to provide their own laptop or mobile workstation computer. Each program has a hardware minimum required spec that will need to be met. For financial assistance in purchasing a laptop or mobile workstation, students will be provided financial aid options. If the student already has equipment, it must meet the minimum specs set by their perspective program and be able to run any software required by that program. Students will be able to purchase their program’s suggested models through Chatham University’s purchase agreements with Apple Computer, Hewlett Packard, and Dell.
Key components of the laptop requirement program:
- All students entering one of the following programs: Physical Therapy (DPT), Occupational Therapy (MOT), Master of Landscape Architecture (MLA), Master of Arts in Landscape Studies (MA), Master of Science in Interior Architecture (MSIA), Master of Interior Architecture (MIA), or Physician Assistant (MPAS), are required to provide a laptop or mobile workstation computer and software that meets their perspective program’s requirements.
- Chatham University has entered into purchasing agreements Apple, HP, and Dell. Each vendor is providing custom stores for Chatham students. The customization goes beyond the specific hardware models by including specialized support services that will be offered by Chatham’s Information Technology Services Helpdesk. The purchase of these computers is a transaction between the student and the chosen computer vendor.
- Chatham does not require that the student purchase the specified Apple, HP, or Dell hardware listed, but to provide hardware and software that meets or exceeds the models listed. Chatham is providing support and negotiated pricing as a service to the student. The models that we list are those that our Helpdesk – as we are “self-maintainers” for the chosen vendors – are authorized to repair onsite. Any equipment purchased outside of the Chatham listed bundles will be supported, but may not fall under our repair agreement with the vendors. This will prevent Helpdesk from authorized repair of the student supplied hardware.
