High School Scholar Program

High School Scholars Application - Click here to Download the Application As a service to the community, Chatham University, a leader in women’s education, offers tuition-free courses to outstanding junior and senior students enrolled in the greater Pittsburgh area high schools.

Chatham’s High School Scholars (HSS) program allows young women to experience a supportive and challenging women’s college environment.

Chatham’s historic campus is nestled between the safe, residential neighborhoods of Shadyside and Squirrel Hill. Accepted students may enroll in one daytime course per semester and in a total of four HSS courses over their two year eligibility.

Requirements for Application
  • High school GPA of 3.0 or above
  • Rank in the top 20% of class
  • SAT scores of 1000 or higher ( or comparable PSAT scores)
  • Strong counselor recommendation
  • Willingness to adhere to Chatham’s Honor Code
Application Process
  • Select preferred course (see guidance counselor for list of available HSS courses)
  • Complete student portion of the HSS application, including parental signature(s) and signed Honor Code
  • Return completed form to guidance counselor or gifted student advisor.
  • Guidance counselor/gifted student advisor will attach a letter of recommendation and transcript to completed application and mail to Lindsey Brett, Chatham HSS coordinator
  • Notification of acceptance will be mailed to the student by Chatham University. All accepted students are expected to attend a mandatory orientation session.
  • Costs

    • Tuition-free college-level courses
    • $50.00/course non-refundable administrative fee (payable to Chatham University prior to class registration)
    • Books (average $50.00/course)
    • Transportation to and from Chatham University

    Administrative Details

    • Student placements made on a space-available basis
    • Placements subject to faculty and HSS coordinator approval
    • Course times are subject to change until the semester begins
    • Classes for the spring semester will begin on Monday, January 5, 2009
    • Breaches of the Chatham University Honor Code will be subject to the campus Student Judicial System
