Grounded in the liberal arts and focused on preparing students for the future, a Chatham University education emphasizes women’s leadership, global understanding and environmental awareness. Opportunities for intellectual and personal growth are coupled with personal attention from faculty. In this way, Chatham empowers women to assume their roles as leaders as it has for more than 135 years.

The Chatham Advantage
With a student-to-teacher ratio of 8:1, faculty - not teaching assistants - teach all classes and advise students as they choose from over 35 majors and pre-professional programs. Technological updates, like wireless access around campus, tablet laptop PCs provided to all first-year students, and a $10 million science complex, keep students connected both in and out of the classroom. Chatham’s Five-Year Masters program enables students to earn both bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the College or from the prestigious Heinz School of Public Policy at Carnegie Mellon in as few as five years.

Chatham students may register for classes at any of Pittsburgh’s eight other colleges and universities including Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Pittsburgh - both of which are within walking distance of the campus. The Chatham Abroad program offers international travel and study for every student. Mentoring programs link students to more than 350 internships nationwide.

The Global Focus program brings a region of the world—its politics, geography, cultures, and perceptions—into closer view for the entire campus community through course work, service learning projects, lectures, movies, and discussions. Recent Global Focus topics include Latin America and the Communities of Islam.

Involvement in one’s own community is integral to the Chatham experience. Combining practical learning opportunities with career exploration, Chatham students typically complete over 46,000 community service learning hours worldwide annually.

Chatham’s seven NCAA Division III sports teams—basketball, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis, volleyball, and the first female varsity collegiate ice hockey team in Pennsylvania—have a new home in an $18 million Athletic and Fitness Center, featuring a competition pool, gym, squash courts, cardio rooms, climbing wall, running track, and exercise and dance studios.
