Sophomore Year... Kinda
By Liz Cochran
Ok, so it’s technically my sophomore year here, but I’m an academic junior at the current moment. I transferred in with some Advanced Placement credits from high school, which is definitely a good idea if you have the chance! So after my first year here, I was really excited to begin the second one. I stayed for Maymester last year but had the summer off, which made for a nice break. However, by August, I was ready to come back.
I live on campus in the Chatham Apartments along Fifth Avenue, which is a step up from the dorm rooms on campus. I have two roommates, and we share a two bedroom apartment, equipped with a living room, dining room, kitchen, and bathroom. Ok, so I know what you’re thinking. Really small… right? Well, it’s not so bad, and it’s really nice to have our own space. We can make dinner whenever we want, and we don’t have to rely upon the dining hall as much anymore…but there’s still the option to eat there if we want. Also, it’s only a short trip up the apartment steps to get to the academic buildings on campus. I’ve timed it—maybe a two minute walk if you move fast!
But anyway, I’m taking 18 credits this semester, and it’s tough, but I’m managing. Finals this year will be tougher than ever, and of course, everyone piles on the presentations and projects in the last weeks before Finals Week. All in all, this year has panned out pretty well for me. The transition from summer back to classes was a lot easier this year than during my first, since it was so new back then. Also, coming back to all of my friends is really nice too. Even though my schedule is hectic and I work here in Admissions, I still have time for friends and fun. Now, it’s getting close to Winter Break and the holidays again, so I’m really excited for that, too! I’ll write back later, but in the meantime, if you have an idea of something you’d like me to write about, just e-mail us at chathamambassador@chatham.edu and I’ll see what I can do!
