The Not So Dreadful Tutorial!
by Deb White
As you may know, during your senior year at Chatham you are required to write a senior tutorial. The tutorial is basically a year long research project – comparable to a Master’s level thesis.
I am currently in the process of doing mine, and it's not so bad. For my tutorial topic, I am looking to discover the perception teachers have towards the education of students. I am enjoying the literature I come across concerning the nature of public and private schools. As a future teacher, I would like to remain in the public school system, because I believe there is a lot of potential that gets overlooked, and I hope that my enthusiasm and positive outlook about learning can help motivate the students to truly excel! That’s one reason why this information is so intriguing to me.
Prior to writing the tutorial, in a junior seminar class, we're instructed to research a topic that is of extreme interest, because it is something that you will conduct throughout the course of a year...and I am just having a blast! Granted, there are a few loop holes such as getting the proper approval, and worrying about formation details--and that is the beauty of it (haha).
So, future seniors, no need to fear, the tutorial is not so bad, just make sure it's something that you truly want to do, because you will be the expert this time--and just think of it this way, this is your opportunity...your time to SHINE!!!!
