Academic Life

The Chatham University experience is dedicated to enabling its graduates to make an impact on the world around them. Students’ personal, professional, and leadership skills are developed to their fullest potential through intensive study, internships, study abroad, service learning, leadership training opportunities, hands-on learning, and personal development seminars. Undergraduate students can personalize their curriculum, choosing from more than 30 majors in the sciences, social sciences, humanities, fine and performing arts, professional and pre-professional programs, and interdisciplinary areas such as environmental studies and global policy studies. Students may also create their own multidisciplinary major. In addition, students may choose to enter a Five-Year Masters Program where they can earn both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in as little as five years.

First-year students at Chatham work closely with a faculty advisor. If you have an idea of what your major will be, your advisor will be familiar with that academic area. If you are undecided about your major a faculty member who is trained to work with undecided students will be your advisor. Your advisor will help you choose the appropriate classes, identify your personal and professional goals, and help you as you adjust to college-level academics.

New first-year and transfer students will have their first advising sessions prior to the beginning of the fall semester. Most students register for their classes on Accepted Student Day. If you are not able to attend Accepted Student Day, the Director of Academic Advising will contact you with information about registration. If you live close to Chatham and are able to come to campus, you will be able to meet with an advisor over the summer to finalize your schedule. If you live at a distance you will be able to plan your schedule by phone or email. All new students meet one-on-one with their faculty advisors during orientation in August.

Throughout the first and second terms you will continue to meet with your advisor regularly. I am also available to help you with any questions you have about your choice of major or career. Please feel free to e-mail, call, or stop by my office.. I’m looking forward to meeting you.
