Graduate Student Housing
Chatham University maintains seven affordable housing options for graduate and Gateway students that are conveniently located close to the Shadyside Campus. Tenants have easy access to campus activities, services, and resources.
While each housing options has unique features and amenities, all seven housing options offer the following amenities:
- Ten-month academic year leases (two terms of five months each), with an optional summer extension for June/July
- Utilities (water, heat, electricity, garbage/recycling, and cable) are included in rent
- Closets space in each housing option
- Charges for rent are applied directly to a student’s account
- Secure swipe card access to building
- Regular patrol by Chatham University Police
- Laundry facilities in each building; free for residents
- Parking available in close proximity to all housing options. Register and pay at my.chatham.edu (except Haber Duplex residents, who need a Pittsburgh parking permit to park in front of the building)
- Several bus routes run around Chatham University and have stops near the housing locations. Chatham students ride public transportation free with a Chatham student ID card.
In Order to register and secure a graduate housing space, please complete the graduate housing application available on my.Chatham.edu. The housing application can be found under documents & forms. Your non-refundable $150.00 housing deposit must be paid to Student Accounts in order to complete the application. Charges/Rent
Rent includes all utilities (electric, water, heat, waste removal/ recycling, and cable) is billed to a student's account in two billing cycles – once in the fall and again in the spring semester. Students registered for the Fall semester may register to remain in housing during the summer months (June and July) if space is available. These individuals will be billed separately for these months. Before signing a lease, students are advised to consult with the Office of Financial Aid so they understand how their financial aid package will be affected by these housing costs.
Furnished Apartments
All furnished apartments include the following items:
- Twin Extra Long Bed(s) and Dresser(s)
- Desk(s) and Desk Chair(s)
- Dining Room Table and Chairs
- Sofa, Coffee Table, End Table
*Number of items varies by type of housing option. All furnishings must remain in housing space for the duration of the lease.
Roommates
Chatham University students are not assigned roommates by the Office of Residence Life. Those who are interested in finding another Chatham University Student may contact the Office of Residence Life for assistance in finding a roommate. Both individuals must agree in writing to share a housing space before the assignment will be made.Work Orders
The Chatham University owned housing is serviced by the Chatham Facilities Department. When issues arise, tennants are responsible for submitting all work orders in writing to the Office of Residence Life via email (reslife@chatham.edu). For emergency work orders (i.e. plumbing or lock issues) contact the Office of Residence Life via phone (412.365.1518) Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.. All after-hour emergency work orders may be reported to Chatham Campus Police by calling the non-emergency phone number (412.365.1230).
Housing Options
Woodland Hall
Located on Chapel Hill Road in the Shadyside Campus, This traditional style residence hall is perfect for the graduate student who wants to live on campus without the hassle of maintaining an apartment. When living in this housing option, graduate students are in a prime location as they are close to Cafe Rachel, the library, and the chapel. The Chatham operated shuttle is right at your door step which can help connect you to variety of locations, including Chatham Eastside.

Chung Apartments
Located at 5780 Fifth Ave., two stone pillars mark the entrance to the parking lot of Chung Apartments. These spacious two-bedroom, furnished or unfurnished apartments are for Graduate and Gateway students. Chung Apartments sit across from Maryland Avenue where it meets Fifth Avenue. Students have the benefit of a city bus stop in front of the building and across the street. Additionally, it is only a short walk to the Chatham Univeristy Shuttle stop.

Hicks Estate
Located at 5812 Fifth Ave., this former mansion along Fifth Avenue delivers a quiet community centered atmosphere for graduate and/or Gateway students. The Hicks Estate consists of 20 unfurnished one and two bedroom apartments. There are apartments located in the main house, carriage house, and annex.

Pelletreau Apartments
Located at 5826 and 5830 Fifth Avenue, Pelletreau Apartments are the heart of the Fifth Avenue community of on-campus apartments, a short 5-7 minute walk to the Shadyside Campus. These apartments have lots of bright natural light and neutral décor. Graduate and Gateway students may live alone, with their family, or designate a full-time Chatham graduate student as a roommate.

Located at 5836 Fifth Avenue, Linzer apartments sit on a grassy slope, set back slightly from Fifth Avenue. These 24 comfortable one-bedroom, furnished apartments are available to Graduate and Gateway students.

Haber Apartments
Located 5803 Fifth Ave., this former mansion delivers a quiet, comfortable atmosphere
for graduate and/or Gateway students. Haber consists of eight unfurnished, one- and two-bedroom apartments. The spacious, contemporary style apartments were completely remodeled in 2008. Their modern style makes them a unique part of the Fifth Avenue community.

Duplex at Maryland Ave.
Located at 929 and 931 Maryland Ave., tucked quietly behind the Haber apartments is the Duplex at Maryland Ave. Recently updated, this housing selection is convenient to the major bus lines and local attractions and offers students a spacious, comfortable living space. The cost of this three bedroom housing is affordable for three roommates or can be a great family option.
