Lockout & Key Policies

Lockout Policy and Procedure

Students are expected to have their room key and ID card with them at all times.  Should a student become accidentally locked out, they should contact the RA On-Call (schedules are posted on bulletin boards in the front entrance of each building).  If the lockout occurs between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., students should contact the Office of Residence Life & Student Activities - Residence Life at 412-365-1518.  If the lockout occurs between 8:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m., the student should contact the RA On-Call (numbers posted in the front entrance of each building).  If the lockout occurs any other time or the resident is unable to reach someone, students should contact the Residence Life On-Call at 412-951-0003.  All lockouts result in a $10.00 charge.

Key & ID Card Policy

Room Keys

Upon arrival, each resident student will be given a room key.  If a student should lose a key or fail to return it at the end of the year or other time of checkout, the student will be billed $75.00 for a core change and 2 replacement keys (one resident key and one key for the Residence Life office).  Students may incur additional charges for each additional key needed for the room (i.e. cost for a double room would be $100.00).

ID Cards

A student’s ID card is their access into the residence halls.  Students should keep their ID cards with them at all times.  All undergraduate resident students have access to all undergraduate residence halls from 10:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m.  Any lost or missing ID cards should be reported to the Office of Student Affairs immediately. Lost ID cards can be replaced in the Office of Student Affairs for $25.00.
