Low-Residency Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing (MFA)
What is the deadline for admission?
We have rolling deadlines, but we recommend a deadline of March 15th for Fall admission and October 15th for Spring admission.
Can I transfer graduate credits to the low res MFA?
You can usually transfer up to six hours of graduate credits if they are in an area of creative writing or literature.
When do the residencies take place?
Residencies usually take place the second week of August. The first residency will be in August 2009.
Are students in the low-residency MFA program eligible for the Rachel Carson Fellowship?
The Rachel Carson Fellowship is only for resident MFA students
Should I study with just one writer?
We usually recommend that you take mentorships with at least two different writers during your first year to get different perspectives on your work.
What if I want to transfer from the Chatham low-residency program into the residency program?
We can usually accommodate this request, but you would have to contact the director of the program to work out the details.
What if I want to transfer from the Chatham residency program to the low-residency program?
If you have an acceptable reason (moving away from Pittsburgh for a job or family reasons), we can usually accommodate this request. You will have to contact the director of the program to get permission for this move.
