The Pittsburgh Council for Higher Education (PCHE) has established a procedure by which students can cross-register for courses at any of the PCHE partner institutions. Financial arrangement for this registration is handled completely through enrollment at the student's home institution. Since all four schools in the Three Rivers University Consortium for the Environment are PCHE partner institutions, students at one of the Consortium schools can register for environmental courses at any of the other Consortium schools without additional cost.

The 3RUCE web site has been developed to serve the students and faculty of the schools as well as the community-at-large. The web site provides information on the environmental course offerings at the four schools and also has links to the registrar’s office at each school. Thus students can readily obtain the information they need to begin the cross-registration process. The web site is maintained by Larry Viehland (viehland@chatham.edu) at Chatham College.

Descriptions of courses and pre-requisites can be easily accessed on the web site through linking. A student interested in virtually any branch of the environmental field can find an appropriate course at one of the 3RUCE member institutions. Examples of topic areas include environmental science and engineering, epidemiology and toxicology, sustainable architecture, environmental law, natural resource development, environmental management, urban and public affairs, environmental policy, and risk assessment.
