Admission
The Five-Year Masters Program is available for entering first-year students and currently enrolled undergraduates in good standing who meet the eligibility requirements. Incoming first year students may become candidates for admission into all graduate programs in the Five-Year Masters Program at the time of admission as an undergraduate student with the exception of Physician Assistant Studies and Teaching. Students who wish to be formally admitted to the Five-Year Masters program should apply during their junior year of study. All students interested in the Master of Arts in Teaching program must apply during the sophomore year at Chatham; those interested in the Physician Assistant Studies program must apply during the junior year. Acceptance into the Five-Year Masters Program for all students is conditional pending successful completion of all graduate program prerequisite requirements. Students interested in applying to the Five-Year Masters Program should contact Michael May, Director of Graduate Admissions, at (412) 365-1141.
Admission Procedures
Incoming first-year students should indicate their interest in applying for the Five-Year Masters Program on the undergraduate application to Chatham University that is submitted to the Office of Admissions. Students may also indicate their interest by visiting the Office of Admissions during their first semester enrolled at Chatham. Currently enrolled undergraduate students seeking admission to the Five-Year Masters Program should submit a completed graduate program application to the Office of Admissions no later than the end of their junior year (end of sophomore year for those interested in the MAT program). The deadline to submit an application to the Office of Admissions is May 1. All undergraduate students should discuss their interest in the Five-Year Masters Program with their academic advisors as early in their undergraduate career as possible. It is also important for students to meet with the faculty liaison of the graduate program of interest as early as possible.
Requirements
All students applying to the Five-Year Masters Program must meet the following requirements prior to entering the program after the junior year:
- Submission of the graduate application
- Overall undergraduate GPA of 3.0
- Successful completion of all general education requirements except the integrative seminar, which should be completed during either the junior or the senior year. Students who entered the University prior to the Fall 2004 term must complete all general education and proficiency requirements prior to entering a graduate program.
- Interview with the Graduate Program Director
- Two letters of recommendation from faculty members
- Successful completion of any additional, program-specific admission requirements
Additional application materials may be required based on the program to which a student seeks entry. Students should contact the Office of Admissions for program specific admissions information. Students interested in the Physician Assistant Studies program cannot be granted full admission into the master’s program until they have successfully completed the following requirements in the junior year:
- Students must complete the online application form provided by the Centralized Application Service for Physician Assistants (CASPA).
- Students must supply three letters of recommendation.
- Students must shadow a physician assistant and provide documentation of such by completing the PA Shadowing Form with their admission application.
