Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP)
The Chatham University DNP prepares nurses to practice as leaders in the promotion and use of evidence-based practice in the health care delivery system and education process.
Facts about the Chatham DNP program
- MSN or graduate degree in another discipline required
- Designed as a low-residency, web-enhanced program, students will learn both on campus and online
- Each cohort is limited to 20 students, ensuring student-faculty interaction
- Students meeting the prerequisites can complete the DNP in 16 months (27 credits) and 500 clinical hours, which includes a Capstone Experience
- Applicants with a graduate degree in a discipline other than nursing will be individually evaluated and additional courses at the master’s level may be required to meet essential competencies of the DNP program
- Advanced Practice Nurses (Nurse Practitioners, Clinical Nurse Specialists, Nurse Anesthetists, Nurse Midwives) must present evidence of completion of advanced pathophysiology, pharmacology, and advanced physical assessment and completion of national certification of 500 hours of clinical practice during the MSN Advanced Practice Nursing Program
- Students who have not had essential courses as a foundation for the DNP may be required to take these CORE courses
- DNP courses include Developing Practice Scholarship; Ethical Issues; Evidence-Based Practice; rantsmanship; Professional Communication for Nurse Executives; and Quality Improvement in Health Care
Applications for the Spring 2010 Cohort of the Doctor of Nursing Practice program will be accepted according to the following schedule:
June 1, 2009—Applications will be accepted beginning on this date. Applications or application materials received before this date will simply be stored. We will not be able to provide any information on received items until after June 1, 2009.
October 1, 2009—This is the last day that any portions of DNP applications for Spring 2010 will be accepted. If your application remains incomplete on this date, your application will not be considered, and you will need to reapply for a future semester.
Applications for the Fall 2010 cohort of the Doctor of Nursing Practice program will be accepted according to the following schedule:
January 2, 2010— Applications will be accepted beginning on this date. Applications or application materials received before this date will simply be stored. We will not be able to provide any information on received items until after January 2, 2009.
May 1, 2010 — This is the last day that any portions of DNP applications for Fall 2010 will be accepted. If your application remains incomplete on this date, your application will not be considered, and you will need to reapply for a future semester.
