Chatham University Master of Science in Nursing
The Chatham University Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) Program builds on the Bachelor of Science in Nursing foundations preparing advanced practice nurses as nurse educators and leaders in a variety of settings. Courses consist of Core MSN courses and specialty tracks to prepare nurses for a variety of advanced practice roles.

Facts About the Chatham MSN Nursing Program

If you have a BSN Degree:
  • You must have a BSN to earn the MSN
  • Complete your MSN in 10 classes (32 credits)
  • You can take 2 Classes every 7 weeks
  • Classes will be offered August 2006 at the Shadyside Hospital School of Nursing Building 6th Floor from 5:00pm – 8:30pm
  • Classes will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays from August t December
  • Assignments are reasonable and d able
  • Chatham will defer your bill until you receive your reimbursement from UPMC
  • Check with UPMC Benefits office about tuition reimbursement for Chatham Classes
  • There are 5 Core MSN courses (15 credits):
    • NUR 501 Theoretical Foundations Guiding Nursing Practice
    • NUR 510 Population-focused Community & Global Health Issues
    • Advanced Nursing Research
    • Advanced Practice Leadership & Role Development
    • Health Care delivery Systems: Past, Present, & Future
  • There are 5 Leadership/Management Specialty Courses ( 17 credits) for students opting into the Nursing Leadership/Management Track:
    • NUR 631 Health Care Economics and Finance Management in Diverse Health Care Delivery Settings
    • NUR 641 Human Resource Concepts for Nurse Leaders
    • NUR 651 Leadership for Change in Health Care Organizations
    • NUR 661 Leadership Seminar
    • NUR 698 Capstone Leadership Practicum with Nurse Mentor
  • There are 5 Nursing Education Specialty Courses (17 credits) for students opting into the Nursing Education Track:
    • NUR 631 Teaching Strategies for Nurse Educators
    • NUR 641 Technology in Nursing Education
    • NUR 651 Nurse Educator Role
    • NUR 661 Curriculum Development and Evaluation
    • NUR 699 Capstone Practicum with Nurse Mentor
