Pennsylvania Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)

Chatham University’s MSCP curriculum is designed to prepare students to become professional counselors. In order to earn an LPC license in Pennsylvania, students are required to meet the following criteria:

  • Completion of a total of 60 hours of graduate coursework
  • Supervised work experience for 3600 hours under supervision post-masters degree (half of which must include supervision by an LPC)
  • A passing grade on the National Counseling Exam (NCE).

At Chatham, students are able to earn their masters degree after 48 hours of coursework, and can thus begin to working on the post-masters supervised experience while simultaneously completing the remaining 12 hours of graduate coursework needed for licensure. Many students elect to do this, while other students opt to complete the full 60 hours before beginning their supervised work in the field. The NCE is administered each April and October at Chatham.
