How many credits are required for completion of the MAT?
Early Childhood, Elementary and Secondary certification – 45 credits, Special Education – 64 credits, Special Education and Elementary Education – 67 credits, and School Counseling – 54 credits.
How long does it take to complete the MAT program?
If a student attends, full time, carrying 16 credits a term, the program can be completed in three terms. If a student attends part time, carrying 12 credits a term, the program can be completed in four terms.
Are classes offered online?
Some classes are offered online; all classes are offered on the ground both day and evenings.
When can a student begin the MAT program?
Chatham has rolling admissions, and students may begin in the summer, fall or spring terms.
If a student desires certification only, how many credits and what courses are required?
The requirement is between 45 credits because the MAT degree is designed to prepare students for Pennsylvania state certification. There is no shortcut to certification or any difference in course work.
Where will I do my student teaching and field placements?
Chatham makes arrangements to place its students primarily in public schools throughout Allegheny County.
Does the college offer placement services?
Chatham’s Career Services staff meets with student teachers during the student teacher seminars. They assist students with resume writing, interviewing skills and maintain a professional file for all graduates. The Career Services staff regularly disseminates information about job and career fairs and direct students to traditional and electronic online resources to aid in the job search.
What is the tuition and program cost at Chatham College?
Program costs vary from year to year. Prospective students should consult the college web page and contact in the HUB for financial aid information.
Do students need clearances for field placements and student teaching?
Yes. Forms are available at the Education office, Braun 204. Child Abuse and Criminal Check clearances are required. Persons must send a money order to the Department of Public Welfare for the Child abuse clearance. Go online with a credit card to https://epatch.state.pa.us.
Remember to print out the criminal check clearance before logging out of the state police website. Allow 4-6 weeks from the time of application for the child abuse clearance to be processed and mailed to your home.
