School Counseling Certificate Curriculum
School Counseling Certificate under the MSCP Program
In order to become certified in School Counseling, students are required to complete a total of 54 hours of coursework and to earn a passing grade on the PA Praxis I test in Academic Skills Assessment: Reading, Writing, and Mathematic Skills and the Praxis II Subject Assessment test in School Guidance and Counseling.

NOTE: School Counseling students may also wish to pursue licensure as a professional counselor in PA (LCP). For students to satisfy both the MSCP and PA State Licensure requirements, the following additional course must be taken: PSY 635 Concepts of Mental Health and Illness (3 credits) and 1 approved elective course (3 credits). They will need a total of 60 credit hours and a passing score on the National Counseling Examination.
School Counseling Certificate under the MAT Program
All students seeking Pennsylvania state certification must have the following: 6 credits in English, including 3 credits in composition or writing and 3 credits in English literature; and 6 credits in college-level mathematics prior to entering the program.
