Math Club
Spring 2005
Congratulations to math club president Natalie Cooper and math club member Eno Usoro! Both math majors won book prizes for solving difficult math puzzles at the Allegheny Mountain Section 2005 Meeting at Slippery Rock University, April 1-2. Other math club members in attendance were vice-president Enming Qing and Fatma Nogay.
Math Club faculty advisor Dr. Japheth Wood reported on his recent research on the Asymptotic Growth of Free Spectra of Band Monoids.
The meeting featured an intriguing schedule of student and faculty research talks, as well as guest speakers Michael Mays speaking on Graphical Representations of Mean Values, and Brent Morris speaking on Magic Tricks, Card Shuffling, and Dynamic Computer Memories.
Next year's meeting will be held at Juniata College the weekend of April 7-8, 2006.

Please contact Professor Wood or an officer if you are interested in participating in the Math Club.
Our officers for this year:
President: Natalie Cooper
Vice-President: Enming Qing
Secretary: Nicole Hagan
Treasurer: Renee Brown
We plan to invite exciting speakers to tell us about their areas of mathematics, their careers in mathematics, and how we can get involved.
We also plan to watch and discuss plenty of cool math movies. Other activities include seeking official student government recognition and planning for the Sonia Kovalevskaya Math Day in the spring.
