10:00 AM – 7:00 PM
Chatham University Art Gallery in Woodland Hall

A new exhibition is open in the Woodland Art Gallery. Support the arts on campus by stopping by during gallery hours.

Smith writes, "My work is primarily involved with the mythic and heroic aspects of the Artist and by extension mankind. I use drawing to help discover and articulate sculptural images. By doing hundreds of drawings I “find” these images. Small wax models are made and drawn from. These are translated into unique small bronzes. These bronzes create a sense of historical continuity with the great art of the past in particular Rodin, Tetrode, Giambologna and others. They are fragments,"partials," but they always reference the body and the nobility of the standing figure, be they god or man. These characters are very similar to us; they are funny, witty, pathetic, noble and more. They are just as we are. They are our images." Ed Smith is the Gallery Director and Professor of Studio Art at Marist College in Poughkeepsie, NY. He has exhibited at the Brooklyn Museum of Art and the Albright-Knox Museum in Buffalo, NY, and is an Associate Fellow of the Royal British Society of Sculpture and a Guggenheim Fellow in Sculpture and Drawing.
