Chatham Master of Communication Lunchtime Webinar Series: Managing Conflict and Collaboration in Environmental Disputes

Tuesday, September 29, 2015
12:00 PM – 12:35 PM

Webinar One of the Chatham Master of Communication Lunchtime Webinar Series with Dr. Katie Cruger Public participation on an environmental proposal usually takes the form of public hearings, citizen testimony, or written comments addressing a proposed action. However, these processes often produce more frustration and division than they do reasoned decision-making. In this webinar, we explore emerging alternatives for public involvement in environmental disputes, including the ever-elusive community-based collaboration. We will discuss what is required for successful collaboration and what we can learn from others’ successes and failures. Dr. Cruger is Assistant Professor of Communication and Director of the MComm program at Chatham University, whose research specializes in sustainability communication and public decision-making around environmental issues.
