Treat yourself to a summer evening of elegant melodies that reach across the centuries. Centered around nature themes the program includes selections by Tchaikovsky, Saint-Saëns, Debussy, Fauré, Dvorák and featuring Schubert most beloved quintet, “The Trout”! Attendees will experience the height of musical accomplishment against a backdrop of rolling fields, forests, and the Eden Hall Campus heirloom apple orchard. Featuring PSO members Adam Liu, cello; Erina Laraby-Goldwasser, viola; Dennis O’Boyle, violin; and John Moor, double bass. Also, including Katherine Soroka, mezzo-soprano and Pauline Rovkah, piano.

Adam Liu joined the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra as assistant principal cello in 2003. Prior to this appointment, Liu held the position of associate principal cello with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra under Charles Dutoit. Mr. Liu has been the featured soloist with many fine orchestras world-wide, including the symphonies of Montreal, Victoria, Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, San Antonio, Baltimore, Los Angeles and Pittsburgh.

Pauline Rovkah is a concert pianist and the Head of Piano Program at Chatham University. Ms. Rovkah participated in several well-known Music Festivals, such as at the Chautauqua Institution; Peacham, Vermont; Rome Festival, Italy; and Cambridge University, UK. She is a founder and Artistic Director of Chamber Music series at Chatham. Rovkah’s solo recitals and chamber music performances have been recorded and broadcast by the Pittsburgh Classical Radio WQED.

Educated originally as a violinist and member of the PSO from 2006, Erina Laraby-Goldwasser made her solo debut at the age of 16 with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra. At age 22, she discovered a love for playing the viola. She has collaborated regularly with some of the great soloists of our time, principal players from the Cleveland Orchestra, The Berlin Philharmonic, Cincinnati and Pittsburgh Symphonies as well as recent winners of the Tchaikovsky, Queen Elizabeth and Van Cliburn competitions. She has appeared as a soloist with the Rochester Philharmonic, the Cleveland Institute of Music Orchestra and the Pittsburgh Symphony.

Dennis O'Boyle joined the second violin section of the Pittsburgh Symphony in the fall of 2000 under Music Director Mariss Jansons, and attained the position of Fourth Chair in 2003. In 2011 he was formally appointed Assistant Principal Second Violin after serving the previous three years as acting Assistant Principal. Before arriving in Pittsburgh, Mr. O'Boyle spent three years in Florida as a fellow in Miami Beach's New World Symphony and subsequently as Principal Second Violin of the Florida Orchestra, Tampa Bay. Recent notable appearances in Pittsburgh include performances of Stravinsky's "L'Histoire du Soldat" with Attack Theatre of Pittsburgh, annual appearances in the Chamber Music Concert of the Pittsburgh Jewish Music Festival, and frequent performances in the Chatham University Chamber Music Series. Mr. O'Boyle also teaches privately and coaches chamber music and sectionals with the Three Rivers Young Peoples Orchestra. In addition, during the summer he is a member of the prestigious Grand Teton Music Festival in Wyoming.

John Moore became a member of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra in 1996 hired by Music Director Lorin Maazel.   He moved to Pittsburgh from San Diego where he had been a member of The San Diego Symphony since 1991.  He also held the title of Principal Bass with the San Diego Chamber Orchestra.  Moore earned his Bachelor of Music degree at the Curtis Institute of Music in 1988 studying the double bass with The Philadelphia Orchestra Principal, Roger Scott. Moore won first place in the La Jolla Symphony Solo Competition in 1993 performing the Koussevitsky double bass concerto.  John has performed with numerous music festivals including the National Repertory Orchestra, the Tanglewood Music Festival, Shleswig-Holstein Musik Festival, the Colorado Music Festival, Strings in the Mountains and the Grand Teton Music Festival. John was the Associate Principal Bass with the Honolulu Symphony from 1989 to 1991 and served as a Lecturer at the University of Hawaii in 1991.  In 1996, he was awarded the position of principal bass of the Columbus Symphony.

  Katherine Soroka, mezzo-soprano A winner of Pittsburgh’s Concert Society Major Auditions, Katherine’s singing has been acclaimed as “masterful” and “heroic” with “heartfelt vocalism”. She has performed vocal chamber music with the Pittsburgh Jewish Music Festival and Chatham Baroque in a "Music for Exhibitions" concert at the Frick Museum. Katherine has performed Ahkmatova Songs by Judith Shatin with the Duquesne Contemporary Ensemble, and the world premiere of Rumi Sings of Love by David Stock, and in New York City, Betty Oliviero’s Juego de Siempre with Joel Sachs and Continuum contemporary ensemble. Katherine recently performed the premiere of David Stock’s Songs of Solomon with the Pittsburgh New Music Ensemble. She has soloed with the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra and narrated and sung with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra in “Tiny Tots” and “Schooltime” concerts. A frequent recitalist, Katherine has performed in Kresge Auditorium and Levy Hall in Pittsburgh, on The Silberman Recital Series at Allegheny College, in Lincoln Hall in Foxburg and in NYC at Cami and Merkin Concert Halls. She also performs in cabaret and musical theatre and recently appeared as the Witch in Into the Woodswith the Barrow-Civic Theatre. Katherine teaches voice privately in Pittsburgh and Foxburg, where she is on the Board of Allegheny RiverStone Center for the Arts.
