Have you ever heard of the Pantanal ecosystem, often considered to be the equivalent of the Everglades of South America? The world’s largest tropical wetland, the Pantanal, is located in Brazil and Bolivia and features a globally unique assemblage of flora and fauna. Elaine Corrêa, PhD student in ecology and conservation from Universidade Federal de Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil, is a visiting scholar at the Falk School of Sustainability who grew up in the Pantanal region. She will give a discussion on the ecology of this unique ecosystem and discuss the environmental science that she conducts in the Pantanal and surrounding areas. The lecture will feature highlights from Elaine’s field work, an overview of the general ecological attributes of the area, and will be accompanied by samples of Brazilian cuisine.
