HP Compaq TC4200 Tablet PC

Chatham’s incoming first-year students will each receive a wireless tablet computer that they will be required to use in class. One of only two such initiatives at a women’s undergraduate college, Chatham’s program is designed to teach students how to better utilize computers as learning tools. Use of the tablet is integrated into the University curriculum and enables students to access the Chatham network via wireless access throughout the campus. Additionally, many of the campus buildings are equipped with wireless access points to allow for broad use of the tablets.

Chatham faculty members previewed tablet computers to determine how to best utilize the tablets within course structures, including in-class note-taking, research and online learning. First-year students will be assessed a $350 per term technology fee to lease the HP Compaq TC4400 Tablet PC computers, which they will own upon graduation. Yearly, students and faculty will evaluate the tablet program to determine how it has impacted both teaching and learning, allowing the administration to determine whether it should expand throughout the academic curriculum. To learn more about Chatham's curriculum use of the tables, read the recently published article, Internet takes learning wireless, in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
