Landscape Studies Learning Outcomes

  1. Knowledge: 
    1. The student will have a broad knowledge of the core of landscape studies - an understanding of landscape design history, horticulture, ethnography, environment, design and graphic representation. 
    2. The student will have balance between broad concepts and more detailed, specific knowledge.

  2. Processes: 
    1. The student will understand processes of design and the environment, and be able to apply this understanding.
    2. The student will be able to conduct a literature search and to design and execute a major research project, such as their thesis.
    3. The student will understand theory, ethics and professional practice.

  3. Skills:
    1. The student will become proficient in certain basic skills:
      1. Drafting and graphic skills;
      2. Skills to conduct a site analysis;
      3. Synthesis and creation of a sustainable design;
      4. Presentation and communication skills;
      5. Computer aided drafting, design and presentation skills.
    2. The student will be able to identify native plants and invasive plants, essential to their ability to assess the sustainability of a design.

  4. Practical Experience Goals:
    1. The student will become experienced in working on team projects and by interacting with various design and environmental professionals.
    2. The student will develop professional responsibilities and practice ethic.
    3. The student will be able to apply safety and ADA compliance laws to their design solution
