PITTSBURGH(October 31, 2011) … Chatham University recently appointed Dr. Karol E. Dean as the new dean of the Chatham College for Women and professor of psychology; she will join the University in January 2012.
Dr. Dean comes to Chatham from Mount Saint Mary’s College in Los Angeles, Calif., a women’s college where she is professor of psychology and assistant provost in charge of institutional assessment and faculty development. At Mount Saint Mary’s, Dr. Dean formerly served as department chair and interim dean.
Dr. Dean is currently treasurer of the Association for Women in Psychology and a member of the Executive Committee of the Society for the Psychology of Women (Division 35) of the American Psychological Association. She has published numerous articles in refereed journals, book reviews, and chapters in books on psychology and on assessment. Dr. Dean presents frequently at national professional conferences for the Association for Women in Psychology, the National Institute on the Teaching of Psychology, the Association of American Colleges and Universities, among others. In addition, she is a reviewer for two professional journals, Psychology of Women Quarterly and Sex Roles.
Dr. Dean received her Ph.D. and master’s degree in personality psychology from the University of California, Los Angeles, and received her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Boston University.
