PITTSBURGH (October 22, 2012) … Because Chatham University demonstrates leading practices in the recruitment and retention of students with military experience, it has earned a place on the Military Friendly Schools® list, published by Victory Media. The 2013 Military Friendly Schools® list honors the top 15 percent of colleges, universities, and trade schools in the country that are doing the most to embrace America’s military service members, veterans, and spouses as students and ensure their success on campus. There are currently 40 student veterans enrolled at Chatham.
“As a military veteran, I have always valued being a part of something that is bigger than myself,” says Ryan P.J. Stocker, a doctoral candidate in counseling psychology at Chatham. “Being a student veteran at Chatham University has provided me with the opportunity to continue being a member of a military friendly community that has not only enhanced my education, but has prepared me to continue to serve others.”
“Inclusion on the 2013 list of Military Friendly Schools® shows Chatham University’s commitment to providing a supportive environment for military students,” says Sean Collins, director for G.I. Jobs and vice president at Victory Media. “As interest in education grows we’re thrilled to provide the military community with transparent, world-class resources to assist in their search for schools,” says Collins.
The Military Friendly Schools® media and website feature tools to help military students find the best school to suit their individual needs and preferences. The 1,739 higher education institutions on this year’s list have world-class programs and policies for student support on campus, academic accreditation, credit policies, flexibility, and other services to those who served.
“It is such an honor to be able to provide high quality education to military personnel who have served our country and world so selflessly. Hence, being listed as a military friendly institution is the best by-product an institution can receive,” says Zauyah Waite, Ph.D., vice president for student affairs and dean of students at Chatham.

Now in its fourth year, the 2013 list of Military Friendly Schools® was compiled through extensive research and a data-driven survey of more than 12,000 VA-approved schools nationwide. The survey results that comprise the 2013 list were independently tested by Ernst & Young LLP based upon the weightings and methodology established by G.I. Jobs. Each year schools taking the survey are held to a higher standard than the previous year via improved methodology, criteria, and weightings developed with the assistance of an Academic Advisory Board consisting of educators from schools across the country.
