Chatham University Drama Club to perform benefit production of ‘The Vagina Monologues’ as part of the V-Day Campaign to end violence against women and girls
PITTSBURGH (February 5, 2013) … The Chatham University Drama Club will host its annual benefit production of “The Vagina Monologues” at 7 p.m. on February 15 in Eddy Theater on the Shadyside Campus. The performance will benefit the V-Day Campaign, which is a global activist movement to end violence against women and girls. Across the world, productions of Playwright/Founder Eve Ensler’s award-winning play raise funds and awareness for the V-Day Campaign.
Following the production, Chatham will host a benefit reception at 8:15 p.m. in the Welker Room of James Laughlin Music Hall to raise funds and awareness for the Pittsburgh Action Against Rape (PAAR). The reception will feature chance drawings for items from the local community. Representatives from PAAR will be there to share their story about how they are helping the women of Pittsburgh.
To date, the V-Day movement has raised more than $90 million and educated millions about violence against women and the efforts to end it. The movement has launched the Karama program in the Middle East, reopened shelters, and funded more than 13,000 community-based anti-violence programs and safe houses in Democratic Republic of Congo, Haiti, Kenya, the United States, Egypt, and Iraq. V-Day was named one of Worth magazine’s “100 Best Charities,” in 2001, was one of Marie Claire magazine’s Top Ten Charities in 2006, and was named as one of the top-rated organizations on greatnonprofits.org in 2010.
