Chatham Faculty Member Charlotte Lott Named Among Women of Achievement by Celebrate & Share

PITTSBURGH – Charlotte E. Lott, Ph.D., associate professor of economics and business at Chatham University, will be honored by the organization Celebrate & Share at its 9th Annual Women of Achievement awards for her work in teaching women at Chatham University and for promoting financial access and entrepreneurship through her work with Oikocredit.

Celebrate & Share, sponsored by the Allegheny Health Network, is an organization founded to applaud the achievements of women in the Pittsburgh area and to raise funds for women and children in need.  Proceeds from the event will benefit Cribs for Kids Infant Safe Sleep Initiative, an organization that has been instrumental in preventing accidental, sleep-related infant deaths by educating parents and caregivers about practicing safe sleep for their babies and providing portable cribs for infants in need of safe sleeping environments. Lott will be honored along with other winners at an awards dinner, scheduled for March 6.

Lott has taught at Chatham University for 28 years and during that time, she has directed more than 100 senior research projects with Chatham women on topics ranging from transparency in philanthropic giving to the impact of mobile banking on financial systems in developing countries.  Since 2004, Lott has served as a Board member of Oikocredit Western Pennsylvania, a support association of the international organization which functions as a worldwide cooperative and social investor that provides funding to the microfinance sector, fair trade organizations, cooperatives, and small to medium enterprises.

Lott has worked to internationalize the Chatham campus through incorporating international issues in her classes and by leading study travel abroad to Paris and Berlin.  This summer she is co-leading an undergraduate student research trip to Taiwan to study women-led business in the restaurant and lodging industry.
