Art Exhibition: “BIRDHOUSE dialogues” Sept. 24 – Oct 22 in Chatham Art Gallery

PITTSBURGH: The Opening Reception for BIRDHOUSE dialogues will take place on Wednesday, September 24, 2014, from 4:00 to 6:00 pm in the Chatham University Art Gallery. This exhibition features the mixed media paintings of Susana Amundarain, teacher of painting in Chatham’s Department of Art, Design, and Communications, and the poetry of Carol Ciavonne. The paintings and poetry were the basis for a book of the same title published in 2013 by LaFi Publishers, and explore “the pathways of an imaginary bird.” In Amundarian’s abstract works “the eyes rest on the velvety drawings evoking the plumage of birds and the nimble velocity of their flights.” Ciavonne’s “poems traverse the page, inspiring as well as chasing the drawings.”

The exhibit will be on display Monday through Friday until Wednesday, October 22, 2014. The Chatham Art Gallery is located on Woodland Road, next to Café Rachel on the large quad of Chatham University, Shadyside. The gallery is open weekdays from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm. Admission is free.
