Banned Book Week Celebration at Chatham University on September 26

PITTSBURGH:  The third annual Banned Book Week Celebration will be held at Chatham University on Friday, September 26th, at 5:00 pm in the Mellon Board Room. The event will celebrate this year’s featured novel “The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian” by Sherman Alexie. The discussion of the novel will include remarks from Dr. Holly Jones, a professor from the University of Alabama-Huntsville specializing in Ethnic American literature. The event aims to raise awareness of censorship issues and the controversy surrounding “The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian”, which has been banned in schools from Idaho to New York.

The Chatham University student organizations Beyond the Page Book Club, Artist’s Collective, Creative Writing Club, Minor Bird Literary Magazine, and Sigma Tau Delta sponsor this celebration. The event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact the Office of Student Affairs at
