PITTSBURGH: The Center for Women’s Entrepreneurship at Chatham University (CWE) announced today that it has been awarded an SBA Women Business Center. CWE is working with the SBA Pittsburgh District Office on this initiative, including District Director Dr. Kelly Hunt and District Office Technical Representative for Women Business Centers Karan Waigand.
The newly established Women Business Center will be focused on the design and implementation of programming geared specifically to underserved populations of women and the challenges they face in starting, growing, and succeeding in business. In addition, the Women Business Center will provide programming, one-on-one and group mentoring, and counseling focused on business financing, access to capital, certifications for federal contracting, and business expansion through international markets and exporting.
The Women Business Center will initially target nascent women entrepreneurs and established business owners within the 11 counties in Western Pennsylvania, including Allegheny, Beaver, Butler, Armstrong, Indiana, Westmoreland, Somerset, Fayette, Greene, Washington, and Erie Counties, and through virtual programming plan to expand in future years to servicing women throughout the 27 counties covered by the Pittsburgh District Office of the SBA. Chatham’s Women Business Center will engage CWE’s network of community partners to specifically increase service to women from economically and socially disadvantaged backgrounds and women veterans.
