PITTSBURGH: Distinguished Pittsburgh artist, Fran Venardos Gialamas, will open her latest exhibit, Chronicles of a Chatham Art Major, on September 1st at Chatham University. Running through October, the exhibit revisits her first solo exhibition which took place when she was a Chatham College junior in 1958 and features works spanning her career.
Gialamas has had numerous solo exhibitions at venues including the Rivers of Steel Bost Building in Homestead, the Greater Pittsburgh Arts Council, the Jewish Community Center, and in recent years she had seven solo exhibitions at Ceres Gallery, Chelsea, New York City. Her work is included in the permanent collections of David L. Lawrence Convention Center, the Grable Foundation, Rivers of Steel, the Pittsburgh Public Schools Friends of Art, and private and corporate collections throughout the country.
Chronicles of a Chatham Art Major: Fran Gialamas will include paintings, drawings, and photo assemblages and is curated by Elisabeth Roark, Associate Professor of Art at Chatham University. Her 1958 exhibition at Chatham marked the first solo art show for a student at Chatham and was the beginning of a career spanning close to sixty years in the visual arts. Following her junior year show, Ms. Gialamas was exhibiting professionally at the Associated Artists of Pittsburgh annual exhibition at the Carnegie Museum of Art, the Pittsburgh Plan for Art, and the Butler Institute of Art Mid-Year Show in Youngstown, OH.
A Chatham Campus opening reception is scheduled for Thursday, September 1, 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm, along with a public reception on Saturday, September 3, 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Both of these receptions will be held in the Chatham University Art Gallery and are free and open to the public. A Chatham Alumni Reunion Reception is planned during Reunion Weekend on October 14, 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
The exhibition will be on display Monday through Friday until October 16, 2016. The Chatham Art Gallery is located on Woodland Road, next to Cafe Rachel on the large quad of Chatham University, Shadyside. The Gallery is open weekdays from 10:00 am to 10:00 pm; Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. Admission is free.
