100 Things OT Can DO
The MOT Class of 2018 hosted mOTivational Monday during the month of April. This event's purpose was to inform other health professions of all the things OT can do.
AOTA Centennial Year
Chatham MOT Class of 2018 students were excited to attend the Centennial Year AOTA Conference in Philadelphia, PA. Students volunteered and attended numerous presentations on new developments in the field while also looking at how far OT has come over the past 100 years.
AOTA 2017 Presenters
Dr. Lape and four MOT Class of 2017 students presented at the AOTA conference on the use of multisensory environments in dementia care.
POTA Conference 2017
Chatham MOT Class of 2018 students attended the 2017 POTA Conference in State College, PA. Student groups presented posters from their Evidence-Based Practice projects and attended the Chatham OT Alumni Social.
Capitol Hill Day 2017
Each year, MOT students travel to Washington DC with Dr. Salls to participate in AOTA's annual Capitol Hill Day. This annual event is attended by OT practitioners and students from all over the country. MOT students meet with their state and local representatives to advocate for legislation in support of occupational therapy services.
Ecuador
Chatham MOT and DPT students traveled to Ecuador in August 2017 to provide therapy services to children and adults at a free clinic (CRECER), adult daycare center, and nursing home.
Out of the Darkness Walk 2017
Chatham University's First Annual Out of the Darkness Walk was held on campus in April 2017. This event is held to help those affected by suicide and to raise awareness. The walk in April 2017 raised over $15,000. Next year's walk will be on Saturday, April 7, 2018. Hope to see you there!
MS Walk 2017
The MOT Class of 2018 participated in the 2017 Multiple Sclerosis Walk. They had an amazing experience seeing the perseverance and positivity in all of the walkers and spectators with MS. The class was excited to join the massive support system behind those living with MS.
Global Links
Chatham MOT students worked to repurpose gently used medical equipment at Global Links in Greentree. Students cleaned and repaired wheelchairs, walkers and crutches, and packed scrubs to be sent to hospitals and clinics in Latin America.
Stand Down
Stand Down Pittsburgh is an event where people and organizations come together to help homeless veterans. Some students from the MOT Classes of 2018 and 2019 volunteered and handed out mini blessing bags, educational resources, and conducted mindfulness activities with the veterans to promote community and overall well-being.
Backpack Awareness 2016
Each year MOT students visit various elementary schools in the Pittsburgh region to educate students on the proper way to carry and wear a backpack.
Batch-a-Toys
Charlie Batch is a former Pittsburgh Steelers football player. His foundation has distributed more than 35,000 toys to children. The MOT Class of 2018 had the opportunity to volunteer at his Batch-A-Toy event.
Sensory Friendly 2016
MOT Class of 2018 students volunteered at the Andy Warhol Museum for their Sensory Friendly evening. This event is held during Autism Acceptance Month. Students set up sensory friendly stations throughout the museum and walked around with the attendees.
Homeless Children's Education Fund
Chatham MOT students participated in a performance art installation, supporting the Homeless Children's Education Fund.
Blessing Bags
The MOT Class of 2017 made Blessing Bags in cooperation with students at The Watson Institute to provide to local homeless individuals.
Homewood Senior Health Fair
MOT students joined Dr. Novalis to provide tips for reducing the risk of a stroke to the residents of Homewood at the Homewood Senior Health Fair.
Fundraiser for the POTAPAC
MOT Class of 2018 students attended a POTA fundraiser and networking event at Narcissi Winery.
Opening Convocation
Opening Convocation featuring all the new Chatham students. The event is held in the chapel and marks the beginning of the academic year.
Intramurals Bowling
Chatham hosts various intramurals events weekly. The MOT Class of 2018 has been extremely involved with the program.
Pirates Game
MOT Class of 2018 and various OT professors took a break from studying and grading assignments to attend a Pirates Game.
Thanksgiving Dinner
The MOT Class of 2018 attend Thanksgiving Dinner held in Chatham's gymnasium. This event is a Chatham tradition.
