What Can I Do With This Major? is a convenient website that helps you connect majors with careers! For each major that interests you, choose "Information" to find an outline of common career areas, typical employers, and strategies designed to maximize career opportunities. Keep in mind that the information sheets are representative of typical career paths associated with each major and not a comprehensive list.
You may want to explore information and websites from multiple majors to help you learn about a wide range of career opportunities. While the information may not be all-inclusive for those with unique or multiple majors, there are many ideas to guide you in the right direction. Please take the time to review this online resource. Students should visit My.Chatham, click on "Career Development" under "Departments" and select "What Can I Do With This Major?" on the sidebar menu to access this information.
At Chatham, students are provided with one-on-one guidance in selecting a major and choosing a career path. In addition, students have access to online resources and assessment tools to encourage career exploration. Chatham offers students access to the DISCOVER Career and Educational Planning Software which helps students learn about themselves, get information about majors and careers, and prepare for a job search. Students can use this site to assess their interests, abilities, and values and learn about the relationship between majors and careers. DISCOVER is available online to all Chatham students. Students will find it beneficial to complete the inventories section of DISCOVER and discuss results with their advisors.
Students interested in using the DISCOVER resource may visit the PACE Center or email firstname.lastname@example.org to obtain a password. Students with vision impairment may use screen-reading software with DISCOVER.
The following description from the DISCOVER website explains the benefit to students:
"Your ideas about who you are and what you want to become influence your career plans and decisions. The role of the inventories in DISCOVER is to collect information about you and organize it in a way to assist your career exploration and planning."
"The results of the interests, abilities, and values inventories are presented in an integrated way that makes it easy to understand the results as a whole by relating them to the world of work. DISCOVER's World-of-Work Map lets you see how interests, abilities, and work values relate to each other."
DISCOVER also provides:
- Current and accurate information about majors, professions, and graduate schools
- Help with preparing for the job search
- Thousands of resources, including financial aid and scholarship information
