The Food Studies program in Chatham University’s School of Sustainability and the Environment seeks a faculty member in Food Studies with an emphasis on food systems. The new faculty member will be expected to train graduate students, to offer outstanding courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and demonstrate a commitment to diversity and inclusivity in research and education. Applicants should have exceptional research and academic credentials in a natural, social, health science, or humanities discipline that underpins agriculture, food and nutrition access, security or sovereignty. The ideal candidate will bring an orientation towards transdisciplinary research, bridge local food access issues and international food sovereignty movements, and collaborate with other institutions, external agencies, and foundations. Chatham University is developing a new 400 acre campus in Richland Township, PA, which will be designed with goals that include on-site energy generation, water management, and sustainable agricultural production. Preference will be given to applicants who have international background, experience or interests. A Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree is required.

The School of Sustainability and the Environment (SSE) was established in 2009 with the goal of providing the necessary expertise in social justice, economic development, and environmental studies and sciences to support sustainable goals and practices from the individual to the global level. The SSE is currently based at Chatham University’s historic Shadyside Campus, and eventually will be housed at a new, carbon-neutral Eden Hall Campus in Richland Township, PA.
