Mason wasp placing a paralyzed caterpillar in her nest.
After a mason wasp lays her eggs, she will hunt for a caterpillar or moth, paralyze it and place it in the nest where it will become the food for the future wasp that hatches. The nest is then sealed with mud, and the new wasp will emerge in the spring.
