The Evolution of The Silent Spring Project

Friday, February 19, 2016
4:00 PM
James Laughlin Music Hall

Join the Trillium Ensemble on as they discuss and perform selections from five chamber works by composer Mark Fromm: A Citizen of the 21st Century Looks Back, Sonata Deus Ex Machina, Borealis, e to the x, and Silent Spring. These five works will be part of a later performance titled the Silent Spring Project as part of the New Hazlett Theater's Community Supported Art (CSA) Performance Series on April 14, 2016, at 8 pm. The Silent Spring Project is a musical, visual, audio, and theatrical performance that explores, through music, the impact of mankind on the environment. Five pieces by composer Mark Fromm are re-imagined using audio processing and arranged into a narrative that juxtaposes Buckminster Fuller's ideas about the future of humanity with Rachel Carson's warnings about releasing too many man-made chemicals into the environment. The piece Silent Spring was commissioned by Trillium Ensemble, and serves as the performance's focus and finale. Flutist Elise DePasquale, clarinetist Rachael Stutzman, and singer-pianist Katie Palumbo will perform live music floating above pre-recorded music processed by audio engineers Don Maue and Jason Allison.
