Food in Our Neighborhoods - Bridging, Growing & Nourishing

A networking and educational event to highlight resources, success stories, potential partnerships, and new ideas about how to bring and keep good food in Pittsburgh’s diverse neighborhoods. Morning workshop 1. @Dilworth Hall Basement Classroom - Groceries, Health, and economic viability for inner city communities, will feature Glenn Ford, CEO of Praxis Marketplace, a new concept grocery store in Minneapolis focused on low income communities. Morning workshop 2. Tasty Treasures: Food Tours of Pittsburgh’s Historic Neighborhoods @Dilworth Hall Room 100 (1st floor) - will feature Sylvia McCoy of ‘Burgh Bits and Bites, Mary Miller of The Fork and the Road, Sherris Moreira of Rivers of Steel National Heritage Area and Gabe Funaro of Pittsburgh History and Landmarks Foundation. Locally-sourced lunch will be served at the Athletic & Fitness Center (download campus map) Afternoon exhibits @ Athletic & Fitness Center - community foodscapes featuring cooks, chefs, community groups, businesses and more! Here's the list of neighborhoods: Oakland, Hazlewood, Strip District, East Liberty, East Liberty, Highland Park, Garfield, Regent Square. Make sure you meet all the great people here, including Chefs Keith Fuller of Root 174, Kevin Sousa of Salt of the Earth and Kate Romane from E2. In addition, there will be information and education tables featuring: Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh, Grow Pittsburgh, Chatham Food Studies - The Masters of Arts in Food Studies, famous Eden Hall Blend coffee will also be available for sale. Farm to Table Pittsburgh will be there as well as our good friends at The Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank.
