About the Illustrator

Nadine Bernard Westcott

Nadine Bernard Westcott, the illustrator of Up, Down, and Around, is an author and illustrator of many popular children’s books. Westcott lives on Nantucket Island, MA, with her husband and daughter.

Westcott has illustrated more than a hundred books for children including Mrs. McNosh Hangs Up Her Wash, Mrs. McNosh and the Great Big Squash, and Two Bears Beneath the Stairs.

She also is a recognized author for her award-winning versions of the classic tales I Know an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly, The Emperor's New Clothes, The Wheels on the Bus, and The Lady with the Alligator Purse. In addition to creating more than fifty picture books, Westcott also designs a popular line of greeting cards that feature her illustrations.

About Up, Down, and Around
Westcott says that Up, Down, and Around reminds her of the garden her husband plants every year. “It starts out OK in the spring, but by the end of the summer, the squash, ornamental gourds, and pumpkins have taken over,” she says.
