NEW Leadership™ Pennsylvania is a program hosted by the Pennsylvania Center for Women and Politics (PCWP) at Chatham University to educate, empower, and encourage college women to become politically active and to take on leadership roles.

The NEW Leadership™ summer institute is an intensive, non-partisan, five-day program that will take place on June 9, 10, 14, 15, and 16, 2021 via a virtual platform. During the summer institute, students will meet women leaders, learn about women in American politics, and develop and practice leadership skills through panel discussions, workshops, and hands-on projects. After the summer institute, participants are encouraged to continue to develop public leadership skills and will be invited to return to the PCWP for special events, workshops, and programs.


NEW Leadership Pennsylvania 2021 is free to students and there is no cost to institutions.


NEW Leadership™ Pennsylvania is open to undergraduate students enrolled in any Pennsylvania college or university and Pennsylvania residents enrolled in out-of-state schools. PCWP is committed to including women from diverse socioeconomic, ethnic, racial and educational backgrounds in each NEW Leadership™ program. We strongly encourage women of color, nontraditional college women, students who may be gender non-conforming, nonbinary, or transgender, and students majoring in fields outside political science to apply.


NEW Leadership™ Pennsylvania participants are expected to attend all summer institute sessions during the entire program June 9th-10th and June 14th-16th, 2021 In completing this application, you acknowledge that you are aware of these requirements and agree, if accepted, to make every effort to meet this commitment.


We are offering NEW Leadership™ Pennsylvania for credit. If you are interested in earning two credits for this experience the cost is $934/credit. All students interested in earning credit for the experience should contact the PCWP at or 412-365-1878. All students will be responsible for transferring credits to their home institution.
