Master of Occupational Therapy
Admission Requirements

  1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university
  2. Cumulative prerequisite course grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale; grades below a “C” are not acceptable in prerequisite courses
  3. Overall undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale
  4. Required prerequisite courses (You may apply before completing your prerequisite courses; however, they must be completed satisfactorily before you may enroll in the program.)
  5. On-campus writing sample and interview
  6. Completed application for admission, including:
    • Official transcripts from all college and universities attended
    • Evidence of volunteer/work experience in an occupational therapy setting
    • A minimum of 10 hours at two different sites (20 hours total) is required.
    • Three references: one academic, one from an occupational therapy practitioner involved in the volunteer/work experience, and one from the supervisor or staff of a volunteer or work experience
    • Nonrefundable application fee of $45 (Online applications are FREE)
Application Deadlines for Fall 2011 Enrollment
  • Early Decision Deadline (Applicants for early decision deadline must have an overall cumulative GPA of 3.4 on a 4.0 scale.  They must also have a minimum 3.0 GPA in their prerequisite coursework at the time of their application).
    • Early Decision Timeline:
      1. Online application must be received no later than September 20, 2010 (you will find the free online application at http://apply.chatham.edu/graduate)
      2. All official transcripts, recommendation letters, and volunteer hours must be received by the Graduate Admissions office no later than October 18, 2010.
      3. Applicants will be notified of their interview status by November 5, 2010.
      4. Interview Day for Early Decision Applicants will be on Saturday, November 20, 2010.
    • Please review the application requirements for recommendation letter guidelines. All recommendations must come directly from the recommender in a sealed envelope with the recommender’s signature over the seal. Transcripts are required from each institution attended, regardless of whether the coursework appears as transfer credit on another transcript. Transcripts must be official and sent directly from the institution’s registrar.   • Prerequisites
    Although all applicants must satisfactorily complete the following courses in order to be eligible to begin the Chatham University MOT program, completion of all courses is not a requirement for submitting an application. Please note that prerequisite courses must be completed within the past 10 years.
    1. Human Anatomy (one term). If taking anatomy with physiology, both Anatomy and Physiology I and Anatomy and Physiology II are necessary to fulfill this requirement.
    2. Physiology, animal or human (one term). If taking physiology with anatomy, both Anatomy and Physiology I and Anatomy and Physiology II are necessary to fulfill this requirement.
    3. Abnormal Psychology (one term). General or developmental psychology is not acceptable.
    4. Lifespan Development (one term). A combination of developmental psychology courses that cover the life span from birth to death is also acceptable.
    5. Statistics or research methods (one term).

Practice as a professional requires proficiency in oral and written communication. Students will be expected to demonstrate these proficiencies at the time of the on-campus interview.
