Master of Professional Writing (MPW)

Chatham University’s Master of Professional Writing (MPW) program is a broad-based online program that leads to a unique, professional degree. This distance learning program exposes students to a variety of organizational, executive, and technical writing challenges that accurately reflect the realities of today's shifting and expanding business world.

Concentrations for specialized disciplines

With a diverse base of courses, students can focus on distinct practice areas and explore new forms of writing to broaden their abilities. The MPW program’s NEW Technical Writing Concentration or Web Content Development Concentration helps students acquire specialized trainings to propel them into in-demand fields that require a solid technical understanding. Students also will gain experience working in a variety of business formats and discourses and will be prepared to assume positions that demand highly developed communication skills in fields like Technical Writing, Public Relations, Marketing, Advertising, or Corporate Communications.

Pathways ideal for unique professions

One of the greatest features of the MPW program is the opportunity to optimize a program of study directly applicable to students’ current or desired roles. Within that framework, we’ve developed suggested paths of study for Nonprofit professionals and Communications professionals, each with their own focused and relevant curriculum necessary for growth in those fields.

Developed for the working adult

The Master of Professional writing is a 30–credit, fully online accelerated program that offers students the flexibility to complete it at their own pace. Students will explore the practice of writing in a variety of professional contexts, including technical writing, political writing, business and financial writing, writing for electronic media, grant writing, web design, and critical writing. By bringing together students from different backgrounds, the MPW program creates a learning environment where students and instructors can both be drivers of education.

Training that translates

The MPW curriculum builds on students’ knowledge and adds new skills to enhance their current roles or prepare graduates for their desired professions. Each selected course of study also culminates in a final project designed to unify and focus students’ newly honed professional writing skills for an education that is current, flexible, and continually beneficial.
