    The Business of Child Care Start-Up The Business of Child Care is a free application-based entrepreneurial training program for start-up child care providers located within the Greater Pittsburgh region, facilitated by the Center for Women's Entrepreneurship at Chatham University (CWE) in partnership with the Urban Redevelopment Authority of Pittsburgh (URA) and Invest PGH.     Trying Together Home Based Child Care - Application

    Are you interested in opening your own home based child care business?

    Trying Together in partnership with Chatham University’s Center for Women’s Entrepreneurship is offering a 12-week course that includes information about best business practices, opening a small business, child care licensing, Keystone STARS, and developmentally appropriate practices.

    Course participants will receive:
    - Start-up mini-grants totaling $5,000 at course completion
    - Peer mentoring from local child care business owners
    - Support to become state licensed and participate in Keystone STARS
    - Financial stipends for the cost of transportation and child care

    Concept to Launch - Hybrid

    06:00 PM - 08:00 PM

    "Concept to Launch" is a 6-week entrepreneurial training program for entrepreneurs in the early stages of starting a business.

    Dates: Six Wednesday evenings from 6-8 PM starting on September 27th and ending on November 1st.

    The Fall program will be offered in a hybrid model at a reduced rate of $55. The program is capped at 25 participants.

    The first class will be held in person at Conover Room in Mellon Center on Chatham University's Shadyside Campus, Woodland Rd, Pittsburgh, PA 15232. Attendance for the first class in person is mandatory. Remaining five classes will be online via Zoom.

    Required: Zoom capable device and internet access to participate for remaining classes.

    ServSafe® Food Manager Certification

    9:00 AM - 5:00 PM
    ServSafe is a food safety training administered by the U.S. National Restaurant Association which prepares food industry leaders to implement essential public health practices and create a culture of food safety. Pennsylvania law requires at least one employee per licensed food facility to hold a nationally recognized food manager certification during all hours of operation.

    ServSafe Manager Certification training, offered in collaboration with the Center for Regional Agriculture and Food Transformation (CRAFT) , is held in two 8-hour sessions, with the exam held in the latter part of the second session.
