2021 Día de los Muertos: ¡Celebremos el día de los muertos!

Tuesday, November 2, 2021
5:00 PM – 6:30 PM
Virtual Event

Cost: Free

This event is open to Chatham community members only. Join us for our virtual 2021 Día de los Muertos event at Chatham! Day of the Dead is a special celebration practiced throughout many Spanish speaking countries with indigenous roots. Observations of the holiday are held differently in every culture, but they all intend to celebrate life and observe death. For our 2021 virtual event, a pre-recorded presentation on the history and culture of this international holiday will be shown. This presentation is crafted and led by students from Professor Mildred López's Spanish LNG261 class. Following the presentation, Dr. Elsa Arce and counselors from Chatham’s Counseling Services will lead a discussion on how to cope with grief, celebrate life, and honor both. A short documentary film will be shown explaining how women in Piura, Peru cope with the loss of children and help each other as a community across generations. A Zoom link will be sent to those registered prior to the event. These events are hosted as part of Chatham's Latinx Heritage Month celebrations and organized by Modern Languages, the JKM Library, the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and Counseling Services.
